Confidential File -Secret Chapters- Directory

Because the content I've translated / scanned from this book is scattered across this blog on multiple pages, I've decided to put together a directory of the content in the book so readers can more easily find what they're looking for. Please note that as I haven't translated the entire book and god knows I probably never will, the unlinked sections below are not (yet?) included on this blog. If anyone's still reading this long-neglected blog, this would be the place to request specific translations in the comments, though! Prologue Q&A For Strangers in Paradise This section primarily teaches how to play the game so it's likely I won't be translating it. Jack Character Profile

The story unravels the truth that the Strangers and people of Cornelia are living in a world that had been reset many times. Because this text contains information that touches on the core of the story, you should read on after seeing the ending of the game.

Age: 32
Height: 181cm
Voice Cast: Kenjiro Tsuda / Mocean Melvin

The Stranger holding the key to the grand scheme

A veteran Stranger dispatched to Cornelia. Under the influence of the black crystal and Lufenian memory manipulation, he forgets even his own name, and fights viciously, driven by a thirst to defeat Chaos. At first, he has no interest in his memories; rather, he sees them as distractions, but at the end of his long journey he achieves the true goal which he had forgotten.

At the end of the game, Jack appears clad in jet-black armor. Small details of the armor are different from that of Chaos Advent, fought in the Chaos Shrine.

The plan Jack hatched in the past

After being dispatched to Cornelia many times and having his memories erased every time, Jack has realized that the world is but an experiment for the Lufenians to toy with. Trying to fight the Lufenians' tyranny, he devises a plan to become Chaos himself and cut Cornelia off from the Lufenians. He asks his companion, the organic reconnaissance unit Astos, to become his guide in realizing his plan.

Astos & Ultima Weapon Enemy File

Director's comment, Inoue: If you're familiar with Astos from Final Fantasy I then his new design was surely a shock, but it was decided he'd be a more handsome character since the time Nomura brought in his proposal for the game. This came from the idea that Astos originally looked much more elf-like, but for some reason his appearance grew uglier in Final Fantasy I. Though his appearance has changed significantly from Mr. Amano's illustration for FFI, there are many details in common, such as accessories, his nails, and his slender body. The scarf-like fabric drawn in Mr. Amano's illustration also became the silhouette of his hood for this game. Yoji Ueda's voice acting was wonderful. Astos was burdened with so much due to his origins and his role, and I think that you get a glimpse of his darkness through his suspicious, unsettling words and actions. Incidentally, Astos became known as the Fool because of his trickster-like manner in guiding Jack and his comp

Extra Fool's Missives Complete Text

These Fool's Missives do not appear in game and are only published alongside the enemy data files in Confidential File. The numbering starts anew, as they're a separate collection of missives. They are also clearly written by Astos, but I'm not confident in my ability to reproduce his writing style, so please bear with my translations. It's also possible that the monsters' names are localized differently than the direct translations I'm taking from the book. I'll do my best to match the English localization, but if I miss anything, please leave a comment and let me know. Fool's Missive Extra I Goblin, Goblin Guard, Bogeyman Discards of Lufenian experimentation, some sort of creature that holds knowledge" Their appearance so hideous they wear masks to conceal it, they attack humans. Is it because they have been inflicted with darkness and have lost their sense of self, or do they indiscriminately attack of their own accord...? I suppose that the gobl

Lufenian Report Analysis

The following passages expand upon existing Lufenian Report data. The Strangers' True Identity The Lufenians are using humans gathered from other planets to manage the balance of light and darkness in Cornelia. Without knowing this truth, Jack and his companions simply assume they are Lufenian, and consider Station 19 their homeland. In addition, their clothing (their starting equipment) are from their real homeland. Mechanisms of Recreation Lufenians use the term "reset" to describe using the power of the dimensional crystal matrix to go back in time and reconstruct the world.  The Lufenians have used this technology to control the balance of light and darkness through trial and error. In the event of a reset, the lives and memories of the Cornelians are rewound, but a portion of their memories remain in the world as a black mist. Interdimensional Collaborator The collaborator who initiated the Stranger Project has often advised the Lufenians since then, while requesting
